Katsuyasu Kamo, the second generation of Kamo Hamono, was born in 1941 in Takefu City, Fukui Prefecture (currently Echizen City). His mission has been connecting traditional crafts from his hometown to the future. After leaving Takefu High School in 1956, he studied under his father, Shintaro (first generation), dedicating himself to mastering the techniques of his family's Echizen cutlery.
In 1973, Katsuyasu Kamo and his colleagues established the Takefu Knife Industry Research Group. Later in 1991, he founded the Takefu Knife Village Cooperative Association, serving as its first director, with the aim of training future craftsmen for the region. The organization's mission expanded to promote new manufacturing methods and regional revitalization across Japan. In 2016, Kamo received the Order of the Sacred Treasure and Light—an honor that recognizes not only his lifelong dedication to preserving tradition while embracing modernity but also celebrates the achievements of the entire knife-making region.
