As you use a sharpening stone, it will become thinner. Without the stand, the height of sharpening stone becomes too low, making it quite difficult to sharpen the knives as your hands touches the table. With the sharpening stone stand, it will give you that clearance for smooth operation. There are some sharpening stones that come with the stand at the time of purchase, however, if you use multiple sharpening stones, it is handy to have one stand.
