Private Single Bevel Sharpening Class

Learn how to sharpen traditional Japanese single bevel knives.

Our knife sharpening classes are taught by professional knife sharpeners with years of experience.

In this class, we will cover:

• Anatomy and construction of single-bevel knives
• Straightening the knife and flattening the back
• Sharpening the edge, and different options for edge profiles
• Polishing the bevel, and using multiple whetstones to achieve different finishes
• How to apply these techniques to various single bevel knives
• Advice for purchasing single bevel knives as well as whetstones.

Please feel free to sign up for this class even if you haven't taken our beginner class. We will move at a slightly faster pace, and go a little bit more in depth, but no previous sharpening experience is required.

Date & Time

Each class will be about 3 hours and will be held about once a month. Due to the space, class sizes are limited to 5 people.

Location

This class will be held in our Sharpening Annex, inside of our store at 1532 NE Alberta Street, Portland, OR 97211.

Materials

We will supply everything you need for the class, including a loaner single-bevel knife and sharpening stones for you to practice on. If you would like to bring your own stones and knife, please feel free to do so!

Afterwards
