A bargain of a natural stone, this stone sourced from Izari Mountain (yama) is quite large for its size category. Izariyama stones are harder to come by than other mines like Ohira but are very similar. Izariyama are "Shiage toishi" or pre-polishing stones, but are on the harder side and have a bit more cutting power than most shiage toishi. Produces a slightly hazy kasumi when polishing and a fine, crispy edge for finish sharpening.
Approximate Grit: 7000-9000
(Natural stones are all unique and vary in grit, hardness, cutting power and feedback. We do our best to describe them accurately, but variations make it hard to give them an analogous grit rating)
Due to limited supply and unique nature of natural stones, there are no returns or exchanges. Only one of this stone came in so photos are accurate.
Type 40
The type of stone will refer to the overall size and weight of the stone. A smaller number will refer to a larger stone.
(Historically this was in reference to how many stones one could carry at a time. The larger the stone the less of them one could carry.)
