Michiko Kubota heads engraving at Sakai Takayuki, a renowned Japanese knife maker. With nearly a decade of experience, she blends traditional craft with creative expression. From Takatsuki City, Osaka, she discovered knife engraving after exploring various Japanese crafts. Despite challenges in a male-dominated field, she found her place at Sakai Takayuki, starting with basic brand engravings (meikiri) before developing her distinctive artistic style.
Her work is characterized by detailed designs inspired by Japanese culture and natural landscapes. She is particularly known for her three-dimensional carvings, such as her popular "Mt. Fuji and sunset" piece, which features gold-plated details. Michiko's philosophy centers on creating unique, beautiful pieces that bring joy to her customers, while continuously working to improve her craft.
